Most children that celebrate Christmas love Santa. However, many of those same children are terrified when forced to see him in flesh and blood.
Join me as we take a journey fraught with fear and acceptance know as:
The Kelly Children and their Magical Santa Voyage
Kaitlin is oblivious to her surroundings. Yet, the seed of fear has been planted.
Kaitlin enlists the protection of her mother against the man in red.
As a precaution, she clenches a candy cane fashioned into a shiv in the off chance he attempts to attack.
Kaitlin passes out in fear on the way to see Santa. Her parents take advantage of the moment to dress her like Rudolph and take pictures.
We move to New York. She refuses to sit on a NYC Santa’s lap. I don’t blame her.
Twins were born 11 days before Christmas. Kaitlin is thrilled to have a rock solid excuse to not visit St. Nick.
Kaitlin decides to offer her sisters as a sacrifice. Thus giving her prime position in front of the chair for a quick getaway (if needed).
Kaitlin and her newfound bravery with her parents by her side.
Meghan and Emma were pumped full of NyQuil and clueless of their surroundings.
Back in Atlanta.
Twins are still somewhat petrified but their big sister is sure to protect them. The icy fear of Santa is beginning to thaw.
Kaitlin (now 9) is on board with this whole Santa thing. Twins are back on NyQuil.
At this rate, 2014 will be much better than this picture of my brother and I in 1974.
In our defense, this Santa smelled like brown liquor and scallions.
